Mrs. Era Jones Hereford was born July 16, 1855, in St. Clair County, Alabama to Eli Jones and Caroline Fuller Jones. She died, widowed, on July 30, 1919, in Austin, TX, at the age of 64. Her sister, Mary Emily, was the informant on her death certificate. She had lived in Austin for 33 years. Apparently she and her husband, Charles, moved from Columbus, Colorado County, TX, in 1886. She is buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Austin, TX. Her mother, buried also at Oakwood, was Barbara A. Catherine Fuller Jones (1825–1918). She is shown at right. (Photo is from family tree maintained by Debra Allen.) Era’s siblings were Spears Jones, Robert Jones, Eli J. Jones Jr., Susan F. Jones Prude, John C. Jones, James M. Jones, Carrie Jones Stinson, Isabella Ladema Jones Stinson and Mary Emily “Molly” Jones Hadden.

She and her sister, Mary Emily Jones Hadden (December 1846–1934), ran a boarding house on 14th Street and maybe Guadalupe Street in 1900. Their brother, John C. Era’s husband was Charles A. Hereford. Charles was born June 10, 1849, in Washington, Franklin County, Missouri. He died October 28, 1888, in Columbus, Colorado County, Texas, USA. Charles was the son of Andrew Chinn and Mary Ann (Strickland) Hereford. He and Era Jones were married in Colorado County. He is buried in the Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery in Columbus, TX. His siblings included Mary Lela (1857–68), Ida Mary Hereford Walker (1858–1908) and Frank S. (1866–70)

Another source say Charles and Era Jones were married in Bastrop County, Texas, on February 16, 1876. No source is quoted.

In 1919, Era died in Austin.
In 1916, she lived at 1908 Whitis Avenue.
In 1912, she was proprietress of Morris Mansion, 100 West 13th Street.
In 1910, Eliza/Era and her sister Mary Hadden are still working as keepers of a boarding house. Their brother John C. Jones still lives there. Their mother Caroline Fuller Jones is now living there also. John C. does not list an occupation.
In 1909, Mrs. Era Hereford is part of a city wide fund raising effort on behalf of Women’s Cooperative Building Fund. Contributors will be tagged. Those without tags are threatened with arrest in the Austin Statesman. Mrs Hereford is assigned the Driskill Hotel.
In 1906, she lived in Old Raines Mansion, 100 W. 13th St.
In 1903, she was proprietress of Millett Mansion at 900 Brazos Street. The mansion was constructed in 1880, as a boarding house by C. F. Millett, a successful lumberman and furniture builder. He also constructed the Millett Opera House next door. Mansion is shown at right. It was razed in 1963.

In 1893, she is widowed and living at 1403 Congress Avenue.
In 1888, Charles died.
In 1887, Charles was in a boardinghouse at 506 San Jacinto.
In 1880, Charles and Era lived in Precinct 4, Colorado County, Texas. He was a farm laborer. He was born in Missouri.
In 1876, Charles and Era married in Bastrop County, Texas.
